Appropriate technology is difficult for me to define, for its strength lies in the fluid ability to adjust to different community needs. That being said here are my nine basic criteria for technology that is truly appropriate:

• util (useful)
• eficiente (efficient)
• necesario (necessary)
• local (local)
• barato (cheap)
• pequeno (small)
• adapatable (adaptable)
• sostenible (sustainable)
• innovador (innovative)

• I would like to put special emphasis on the importance of such technology to be needed by the community and to be efficient (both in the economic and environmental sense). In addition this technology must be able to be implemented by the local population and be sustainable with existing resources.
