Plastic bags

From Appropedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Capable of lasting over a thousand years[verification needed] and killing a number of sea animals,[verification needed] the days of one time use plastic bags may be over.

China[1] (who also produces them) has already banned these bags, New York[2] has placed "sanctions" on them, San Francisco[verification needed] have banned them, and in England[verification needed] they're thinking about banning them.

[edit] How bad are they really?

Some commentators argue that plastic bags are not as bad as portrayed - is this true?suggested project.

It seems likely that it would at least partly depend on location. In flood-prone cities like Dakha & Jakarta, where drains can be blocked by rubbish, the immediate impacts might be quite serious.

Comment: Some interesting claims made in this article - however the journalist doesn't have a wide reputation for accuracy or objectivity, so other sources should be sought. --Chriswaterguy · talk 21:42, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
