AT CAD Team/Mummy hammock
The AT mummy hammock is a hammock that provides good thermal insulation aswell as protection against mosquito stings and/or attacks of any other critters. I many developing world regions (tropics/subtropics), mosquitos are a great problem since they carry diseases such as malaria. Other insects such as flies (ie tseetsee fly, ...), sandflies, ... also carry other nasty diseases (see http://www.traveldoctor.co.uk/insects.htm) The mummy hammock basically blends a sleeping bag with a mosquito net. The hammock can be used indoors and outdoors (modular design). At both locations, mosquitos can be present and will sting sleeping persons (and a single mosquito is all it takes to pass on an ilness). Even indoors, if no additional measures (ie perfect sealing, use of insecticides inside the room, ...) are taken, the room itself doesn't provide enough protection against mosquitos and other insects.

[edit] Setup
The AT mummy hammock is a hammock with mosquito net cutout. It also features a single sheet that is folded in such a way that it covers the entire hammock frame on which the person lies. The mosquito net cut-out decreases the cost of mosquito nets, since less m² of net is required (regular mosquito nets are sized to fit loosely over an entire 2-person bed). In addition, it also reduces the cost of sleeping accomodations, ... The hammock will consist of 2 metal wires, on which the lower sheet and top sheet is fixed respectively (no holes between wire & sheet). The left or right part of the hammock is then closed by means of a zipper.
An extra sheeth is also implemented, about at neck-height, to allow use of the hammock in colder climates (or hot ones that cool down heavily at night, ie deserts). This is needed as the netting allows (colder) ambient air to enter the top part of the hammock.
Being a hammock, it is also still able to swing which is useful when using the design in vehicles (ie boats, ....). The swinging action then works like a shock absorber, eliminating the movements of the boat or vehicle it is used in.
[edit] Safety
Anyone sleeping in the hammock can remain anchored with a rope (rope connected between anchoring point and climbing harness). This way, the hammock can even be used at high elevations without any safety risk. The hammock remains firmly closed to mosquito's despite that a small hole is present where the rope goes trough the zipper. This, as a small patch of textile has been placed there where the rope enters trough the zipper.
The problem that mosquitos (and/or other critters) can pierce the fabric has also been solved trough the design. This as a frame keeps the textile at some spacing away from the body.
[edit] Disassembly
Besides the textile itself which can be easily taken off from the hammock for washing, the metal wire (part of the frame) can too be taken off easily. This is possible as the carabiner and metal ring holding the ends of the metal wires together can be screwed off. The wire can then be put trough the holes in the standing beams. It's also possible to make the standing beams unpluggable from the frame.
